                   Graduation Requirements

24 Credits Required Beginning with Class of 2015

 

-----English - 4 Credits

-----Math - 4 credits, 1 minimum per year, including Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, and     

             a higher level math

-----Science - 3 credits, including Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and a 3rd lab science        

-----U.S. History - 1 Credit            (U.S. History and Geography beginning with class of 2016)                            

-----World Geography or World History - 1 Credit  (World History / Geography beginning with 2016)

-----Economics - 1/2 Credit    AND     -----U.S. Government - 1/2 Credit (US Govt & Civics with 2015)

-----Lifetime Wellness - 1 Credit  (can be replaced with 2 credits in ROTC)

        --PE - 0.5 credit or Equivalent;   Personal Finance--0.5 credit

 

**-Foreign Language (same language) - 2 credits  

**-Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Theatre Arts, or any Music Class (General, Vocal, or Instrumental) - 1 credit

            ** Foreign Language and Fine arts can be waived if not going to college and supplemented with additional classes complementing the focus

 

---Electives - Credits needed to equal 24

 

--An Elective Focus or Program of Study (POS) of 3 credits is also needed:: Math & Science, Humanities (social studies, foreign language, language arts), Fine Arts, (music, art, theatre), ROTC, Additional Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Classes, or Career & Technical Education-various areas-- Agriculture    Auto Maintenance    Broadcasting    Business*    Construction    Cosmetology    Criminal Justice   Culinary Arts   Digital Design    Engineering Technology    Family Consumer Science*    Health Science Education    Marketing  

* More than one option is available within this area.

3 additional related or complementary credits needed if no Foreign Language or Fine Arts.

--Student's must also PASS a Civics test that will be administered their Senior year and take an ACT test at some point in their high school career in order to graduate. Free ACT tests are offered during the school day in the Spring of the student's Junior year and in the Fall of his or her Senior year.

 

*To be promoted to a:

Sophomore homeroom:      a student needs 6 credits at the beginning of the school year.

Junior homeroom:                 a student needs 12 credits at the beginning of the school year.

Senior homeroom:                a student needs 18 credits at the beginning of the school year, or may be promoted at the beginning of a term of student’s 4th year if possible to Graduate.

 

Graduating with Honors may be earned by meeting graduation requirements and having a 3.5 Grade Point Average,

Graduating with State Honors may be earned by meeting all ACT subject benchmarks.

Graduate with Distinction by attaining a B average and completing at least one of the following:

  • earn a nationally recognized industry certification
  • participate in at least one of the Governor’s Schools
  • participate in one of the state’s All State musical organizations
  • be selected as a National Merit Finalist of Semi-Finalist
  • attain a score of 31 or higher composite score on the ACT
  • attain a score of 3 or higher on at least two advanced placement exams
  • successfully complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
  • earn 12 or more semester hours of transcripted postsecondary credit
